Flag Rewards Dev Post: SFR Healer CounterFlag Neutralizer - User Preference Poll - Healing via Beneficiary Comments?

We have finished the framework to gather all @steemflagrewards flag mention comments. This will include our report posts as well. Protecting these comments is important to encourage healthy flagging in our ecosystem. I've already begun testing pulling flags on our mentions and looks like it is working as expected.

The next step is the upvote or healing mechanism. There are design considerations which I felt prudent to ask our community about. If you are not an SFR user, I ask that you refrain from this poll.

Let's say you are a user that has encountered a revenge flag from an abuser. Out of the following options, how would you prefer your healing to be delivered.

The question depends on which of the following we value more.

  • Maximum Payout without reputation
  • Lesser Payout with reputation

Let me explain.

Recently, I experimented with rewarding a flagged user via a beneficiary comment as you can see below.

This prompted the line of thought for SFR healing. What do I think are the pros and cons of each?

Healing with Beneficiary Comments

Pros:

  • No negative rshares to traverse
  • Ability to use the same voting power and provide better greater payout in vests
  • If SFR idle VP is used, no need to unvote / revote
  • Way to compensate flagged user even if we lack the SP to counter a particular flag

Cons

  • Reputation is not restored
  • Content remains hidden
  • Inability to heal posts with max beneficiaries when author rep > 0

To clarify the last point, our flagger posts have the max number of beneficiaries and 95% payout weight. This leaves 5% for our bot's growth. If one of these were flagged, we would likely need to exclude our bot or create an additional comment. This would require a bit more calculation but I think it is doable.

Healing Flagged Posts / Comments

Pros:

  • Restored Reputation
  • Less Complicated Implementation
  • Posts / Comments made visible

Cons:

  • Expend more VP to cancel negative rshares
  • Inability to counter higher SP flags

Currently, I am working out the code to compile all negative reward shares. Then, we will need to perform some checks to match the appropriate vote percent. We will use dedicated flag neutralizer accounts and likely @steemflagrewards idle VP. We will do whatever it takes to defend our users sending good flags against abuse.

Additional considerations:

  • Ensuring any heals leave content above SBD_Minimum_Payout

This one is tricky because of the math involved. We will be relying heavily on Beem's rshares_to_vote_pct function of the Steem class to get it done. The complexity is compounded by using multiple healing accounts. Been pounding away at it but think it's going to take some deep thought to get it done right. I have my caffeine on standby! ☕

  • Reporting healing activity for full transparency

I plan to store a Python dictionary variable in a list for every item we heal. This data will be used to produce reports for the community to review and act upon like our other reports. We will be sure to make note of the naughty revenge flaggers in a table column.
