This card received some high-level reshuffling only weeks before October 21st. Islam Makhachev was supposed to defend his title against Charles Oliveira, who suffered a deep cut above his eye in his last training session. Alexander Volkanovski , who is the current Featherweight champion, took the opportunity to make a second run at the Lightweight belt on only 11 days notice.
Islam already defended his belt against Alexander at UFC 284 on February 12th in Perth. For Makhachev it will be Volkanovski back to back, Volkanovski defended his belt against Yair Rodriguez on the 8th of July in between.
