There are many reasons to kill an animal: some are harmful, mischievous or dangerous, are jeopardizing your harvest or damaging your house. In other cases they are your food, for example, you kill your chicken to cook it for Sunday lunch. Sometimes you prefer to kill your heavily-ill, agonizing dog, cat or horse than letting it suffer more. (Merciful or pious killing, eutanasia.)
Some people are hunting animals, and we can’t always blame them for it. Overpopulation of some animals can cause serious agricultural, economic damages and some people really needs the meat, the leather.
Some people don’t kill any animal, some for religious, others, for conscience reasons. Some people in the big cities don’t even have the need, the occasion to kill.
Did you ever kill a bigger animal? (Larger than insects, snails, mouse.)
