Should France ban the Yellow Vest demonstration?

This weekend will mark the 19th Yellow Vest demonstration in Paris.

President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed that the French Army will support some 5,000 police. These soldiers are carrying 'live rounds' and will open fire if their lives are threatened, which could escalate an already precarious situation.

Paris police have stated that no Yellow Vest protests would be allowed on the Champs-Elysees, where last week hundreds of Yellow Vest demonstrators rioted and looted across the iconic Paris avenue.

The Paris prefect's office also states that protesters will also be prevented from the Arc de Triomphe, as well as several nearby areas including the presidential Elysee Palace and the National Assembly,

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe also announced plans this week to increase fines for taking part in the banned demonstrations. With some in the Government calling for an complete ban on the Yellow Vest Protest Movement

Opponents of President Macron reactionary policies have highlighted the dangers of allowing Combat-trained soldiers to deal with civilian protests, and fear that this could lead to further loss of liberties .

Should France ban the Yellow Vest demonstration outright?
