As I get closer to catching up on my Steem feed while on vacation with the family, I continue to take advantage of this slower time for me to experiment on new things. We are getting ready to pack to have our trip back tomorrow but we still have some last minute plans around the town. This has been an interesting week for me as I had a two day gap in engagement which led me to miss posting content for the first time since the Hard Fork 20 deployment! Also, despite leaving with less than 85% Voting Power and my Steemauto ready to go, I had my Voting Power at 100% once again.

I did the best I could to catch up but given the vacation, I am still working on engaging with some interesting posts that I have seen. I have also needed to skip most of the video content I saw on my feed because of continued connectivity issues. However, among the reviews, I have continued to comment, upvote, and even did some resteems. This has made me wonder if my efforts are adding value at the moment or if it is just best to pick up from content that is current. I have gone back and reviewed replies and mentions as well and believe that I have caught up completely. I was also able to get my introduction curation posts up on time for my weekly post. However, I have gotten well behind on preparing for my monthly and quarterly posts so they will most likely be delayed. I will focus the coming week on posting more about the great vacation I have had so far.

I feel that engagement can be subdivided in a number of tasks or operations that we can do here on the ecosystem. First, the most upfront way to engage is creating and posting content. It allows us to present ideas and perspectives to the community which allows for discussions to initiate based on the original thought. Second, we can also comment and reply to subsequent responses from the community. I had normally seen that a comment could get a reply and end there; however, I have started to see how we are now having conversations of comment threads with various replies. This doesn’t include the amount of off-chain engagement that often goes on in other platforms like Discord and/or Steem Chat. Although I enjoy those, I prefer our engagement to be on-chain in order to demonstrate its utility and capabilities.

An additional way that I see engagement can occur is through our upvotes. It is interesting to consider that some do not believe that a simple upvote is engagement but I beg to differ. I think an upvote (even a flag) can send various messages to the Author. First, the normal “great post” which is well deserve of a piece of the rewards pool. This goes to those that enjoy the content you are providing. Not getting into the growing debate on quality (still don’t know what I missed while I was gone there), an upvote is an appreciation of the value you have added to the ecosystem. What often makes this complicated is the weighting system but that a different discussion. Also, upvotes can be automatically provided through bots but have a similar message except that it rewards those that are consistently providing value to the community. I have slowly continued to add to this list of Authors I automatically support given their consistent record of content I enjoy.

Lastly, I often see the Resteem option as another form of engagement. It offers a unique opportunity to distribute the information to more users and keep it current on the feeds of the ecosystem. I am believing that it is becoming another great option to reward content that deserves more attention. It is also a low cost way to deploy content although it could annoy followers that are only looking for your content. However, as the platform grows, I believe it will become a key way to share content and introduce not only content but new authors to the community.
