Immediately after arriving in Bangkok, on the evening of Saturday, 5 January, Rahaf sent out a series of tweet pleading for help. Within a short period of time, she was able to muster an army of faithful supporters on twitter with the voluntary assitance of an Egyptian-American activist, Mona Eltahawy, who translated and shared her posts with hundreds of thousands of her own followers. Since then Rahaf was able to get 167k twitter followers in a span of less than 7 days, which speaks volumn for the support she garnered.

Mona Eltahawy had this to say about the episode, “Rahaf al-Qunun, mark my words, is going to start a revolution in Saudi Arabia.
